Enhancing Greatness: Euronet Unveils New EOC

Euronet Worldwide, Inc. has established a new data processing center, tripling the capacity for transaction management. The European Operations Center (EOC) features state-of-the-art security and protection plans to offer clients the highest-level of processing capabilities, improving upon the existing processing center.

The transition to the new EOC included support for 2,900+ ATMs, more than 30 external host-to-host connections, 80 communication lines and the migration of 17 subsystems from three platforms into one. Another office serves as the real-time backup disaster recovery center for Euronet’s network. The backup facility offers full replication to enable an efficient switch to the disaster recover center site.

Some of the processing center features (illustrated on the graphic) include:

  1. ACCESS CONTROL AND SECURITY
    • A comprehensive Bosch security control system based on combined proximity and PIN entry authentication, as well as internal cameras for constant monitoring
    • Anti-dust cover for protection of sensitive equipment
    • Restricted-entry access to authorized personnel only
    • Seismic sensor motion detectors
    • Accompaniment of third-party entrants into facility

  2. MONITORING CENTER
    • Integrated automated fail over supervision system
    • Emergency event notification/alerts system 7/24/365 on-site supervision of monitoring center

  3. DATA CENTER
    • All data center personnel trained and certified by third party for equipment use and monitoring
    • Transaction processing capacity of 25 million transactions/month with expansion potential
    • Data center equipment composed of IBM iSeries, processing servers and telecommunications equipment
    • Complete hardware, software and telecom redundancy to ensure immediate on-site backup for maximum stability
    • Processing environment meets/exceeds domestic

  4. POWER SUPPLY
    • Two independent uninterruptible power supply systems: UPS (Piller) and Diesel Generator (Cummins) which kicks in within 15 seconds and runs up to 20 hours on one fuel tank. Generator can continue to operate during tank refill process.
    • Connection to two separate Budapest power grids

  5. CLIMATE CONTROL
    • Precision air conditioning units that address the specific requirements of sensitive electronic installations and ensure 7/24/365 operational reliability and efficiency
    • High air volumes ensure high air change rates and better air distribution
    • Stulz Modular Line air conditioning system with N1 redundancy -- no human interaction required for backups to kick in
    • Latest microprocessor systems simultaneously control cooling, heating, humidification and dehumidification

  6. FIRE PROTECTION
    • All doors, floors, walls, ceiling cover made of fire resistant materials
    • Hi-Fog state-of-the-art detection, notification and extinguishing system
    • Highly sensitive smoke detectors (fire alarm may be triggered by breath of person who recently smoked)
    • Combination of distilled-ionized water and nitrogen gas used to create fog -- a fire extinguishing mechanism that does not damage equipment

  7. FLOOR
    • Flood detection and control devices
    • Raised floor covering to enclose and protect cabling, which contains links to national and international networks

  8. WALL
    • Steel wire frame and concrete shell to prevent physical intrusion
    • Sound insulation contained in wall covering material
    • Walls covered by electronic magnetic shield to prevent electronic interference and intrusion
